Yonder
Yonder is many things. A short film. A documentary. A ritual. A creative act of prophecy and precognition. It is a deeply real and spiritual film.
Yonder was based on a loose concept — that a man is lost in his dreams, chased by his double, and in an act of painful revelation, achieves individuation. This seed concept — being lost in dreams, is based on a dream I had where I awoke from a dream, did the normal things upon waking, only to realize that that was a dream I was awaking from. This dream loop continued for several iterations before I truly awoke, unsettled and disturbed by the experience.
Living abroad in a foreign country, created with no script or funding, and using surrealist techniques — we incorporated dreams as I had them, interesting people we met while filming, and improvisation. The film is about dreams and hauntings, fulfillment and purpose, and place and healing. It is a documentary of the initiation of an artist aligning with his calling and soul’s purpose. It is a pure expression of the creative act in dialogue with the ineffable.
